Power unit construction
The construction of two new power units is a huge investment venture requiring a series of activities on community consultations. Therefore, PGE Elektrownia Opole S.A. has conducted many consultation activities in the region, enabling the persons inhabiting the nearby areas and other interested parties to express their opinions on the new project. The community consultations comprised the activities as follows:
- a Scientific Conference entitled "The Construction of New Power Units at PGE Elektrownia Opole – the economic, environmental and social aspects"
- information meetings with the inhabitants of the local commune and with environmental organisations
- an Information Programme on PGE Elektrownia Opole's website
- dedicated internet websites on the planned power units
- information programmes in the mass media
- specialist consultations with competent bodies to decide on the scope of an environmental impact report
- Open Days at PGE Elektrownia Opole SA
- the publication of a special company Information Bulletin by PGE Elektrownia Opole.
Underground storage of CO2
In Łódź there were held social consultations on the construction project of the Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) demonstration plant at PGE Elektrownia Bełchatów S.A.
The meeting held at the Office of the Provincial Local Government was attended among others by the Deputy Head of the Local Government of Łódzkie Province, representatives of PGE Elektrownia Bełchatów S.A. and of the Mineral and Energy Economy Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences as well as representatives of the county and commune local governments, offices and institutions dealing with environmental protection in the area of Łódzkie Province. It was the first of a series of meetings with local government representatives, dedicated to building social confidence in safe carbon dioxide storage in the deep geological structures.
