Education

Implementing the concept of  business social accountability, the PGE Capital Group companies carry out many educational activities in their local communities:

Safer with electricity

The PGE Capital Group's Distribution Companies have been involved for years in  activities promoting the knowledge of safe electricity use. The aim of such activities is safety care, in particular the reduction of electrocutions  resulting from improper electricity usage.

The initiatives undertaken since 2002 have been carried out among others in cooperation with the Polish Society for the Transmission and  Distribution of Electricity (PTPiREE) within the social campaign ''Safer with Electricity". The aim of the programme is to increase the awareness of proper usage of electrical devices and equipment among children and the youth as well as to promote  safe and rational electricity use. Such activities target both children and the youth as well as their parents, carers and teachers.

Lesson plans related to electricity subjects have been prepared for primary and junior secondary schools within this project.  Related competitions for  schoolchildren are also held. Additionally, the Distribution Companies carry out relevant open lessons for the schoolchildren from their local communities.

Electricity school projects

The PGE Capital Group companies also carry out their own self-developed educational programmes. For example, PGE Zamojska Korporacja Energetyczna S.A. is the initiator and organiser of an educational programme entitled "The Way of Electricity to My Home" and an arts competition entitled  "My Friend Electricity".
Taking care of the safety of our electricity customers, in particular the youngest ones, the Marketing and Customer Service departments of the Company have organised since 2004 an educational action targeting year three schoolchildren. So far, over 35 thousand children from the area where the Company operates, have participated in this action. This year the 10th edition of the project has been organised.

The project aims are as follows:

  • to promote  knowledge on safe electricity use for humans and the environment;
  • to explain the roles of the Retail and Distribution companies in the process of power supplies,
  • to teach schoolchildren the rules of proper usage of electrical equipment and power infrastructure.

World Wind Day

Every year all over the world on  World Wind Day  numerous events and competitions are organised aiming at an increase in social awareness of the potential of wind as a source of clean and renewable energy as well as at promoting  new power generation technologies, ecology and healthy life style. In 2009 PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna also joined the celebrations of  World Wind Day, inviting over two hundred secondary school children from the Bełchatów area to attend the Open Day at Kamieńsk Wind Farm. The young people got an opportunity to visit the wind farm and to understand how turbines operate. They also attended a lecture delivered by the President of the Management Board of the Kamieńsk Wind Farm, who underlined a series of ecological benefits related to wind farm operations.

Open days at PGE combined heat and power plants

The PGE Capital Group heat and power plants have actively participated in the lives of their local communities for years, among others, by the educational activities related to their operation. During the Open Days they organise study visits to the plants for the people from their local communities, who get an opportunity to learn about the equipment and the technologies used for production purposes. During the visits,  brief multimedia presentations are also made  dealing with some technical aspects, and  PGE's experts are always eager to explain  issues related to  power generation and heat production as well as  ones related to environmental protection. All the members of the local communities are invited to participate in the Open Days, and in particular,  most welcome are  organised groups from regional educational institutions. When needed,  study visits for schoolchildren are also organised.
