Sport Events

For PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna S.A. giving energy to people is something more than supplying electricity to homes and businesses. Therefore, within the programme Sports Contacts we get involved in  events that evoke emotions in people and which allow us to execute useful social activities, building the image of our brand. We treat  sports sponsorship as a good opportunity to share  positive energy with  Poles with no limits.

In 2011 PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna was the official sponsor of the following events:

  • The FIM PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna Speedway World Cup 2011

One of the most important events in the 2011 season sponsored by PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna was the competition for the Speedway Team World Cup in Gorzów Wielkopolski. For two days Gorzów Wielkopolski became the world's speedway capital. The competition was held in the Edward Jancarz Stadium, which is the pride of the town and one of the most beautiful speedway stadiums in Europe, combining modernity with rich history. It provided speedway fans with unforgettable emotions as after a poor beginning the Polish team had to make good their losses in record time. However, Tomasz Gollob's splendid racing infused our team with optimism and at the finish, all spectators could enjoy the Polish speedway riders' gold medal. According to many sports journalists, the competition made the history of Polish speedway.

The Piast Cross-Country Skiing Race is undoubtedly one of the most famous ski racing events held in Poland. Initiated in 1976, every year the event attracts thousands of ski racing fans to Polana Jakuszycka. PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna has been the main sponsor of the race for three years. This year's 35th edition of the race was quite unique as for the first time in the history of the race, the First World Power Sector Employees' Race for the Cup of the President of PGE was organized! More than 5 000 skiers from various countries participated in the main race.

  • The 13th Special Olympics World Summer Games

"Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt" - these words are the motto of the Special Olympics. The idea behind these words encouraged PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna to become the main sponsor of Poland's Special Olympics Representation for the 13th Special Olympics World Summer Games 2011 held in Athens, Greece between 25 June and 4 July 2011. The competition held in the cradle of the world Olympic games was a feast of tolerance and positive energy. The games were above all a celebration of the life of people who bravely and ambitiously struggled with their own weaknesses. Due to the support offered by PGE - a company open to the needs of others, friendly, socially accountable, committed to the fostering of tolerance and positive energy - Poland's representation for the 13th Special Olympics World Summer Games was the largest ever and comprised 112 people. Altogether we won 87 medals: 29 gold, 30 silver and 28 brown medals. The involvement of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna in this event was dictated by the Group's sensitivity and it had a social dimension. Marketing benefits are not the most important for us in such cases. The human being is the most important. The human being who shows that sport makes it possible for him to regain the will to strive and overcome his weaknesses.

  • PGE Arena Gdańsk

PGE Arena Gdańsk – since 31 May 2011 this has been the name of a football stadium built in Gdańsk's district of Letnica. The signing of a titular sponsoring agreement by PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna is the largest naming rights project in Poland. Our activities are much more than just a pure marketing strategy. We believe that PGE Arena Gdańsk will be an impulse for the development of the city and Polish sport; the stadium creates new opportunities for the local community. Consequently, for the PGE Capital Group, this project is important not only from the perspective of building the company's image and the recognisability of its brand in the region important for the Company's long-term development plans, but also the proof of its social accountability. A visit to PGE Arena Gdańsk and participation in a particular event result in strong emotions and special memories. The building of a sense of this community is a mission undertaken by PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna. We are in a place filled with energy and joy.

The facility itself makes an impression with its grand scale; it is one of the most beautiful stadiums built for EURO 2012. It meets all standards, but above all, it meets sports fans' expectations; it can seat as many as 44000 spectators. Its facade is covered with polycarbonate panels in the colour of amber. We will be able to admire it in its full splendour during the European Football Championship

2012 - the stadium in Gdańsk will host three group matches and one quarterfinal.  Apart from football matches, the stadium will also host concerts of world class stars, and due to its optimal design of the usable area - also symposia, congresses and conferences.
